ISTA Award Winners 2008-2009

ISTA/ExxonMobil Outstanding Teacher of Science

  • Lisa Brody is a 6th grade science teacher at Park View School in Morton Grove. (Region 1)
  • Lynne Hubert is an elementary school science facilitator at Joseph Sears School in Kenilworth. (Region 1)
  • Carol Schnaiter is a K-4 science teacher at Amboy Central Elementary School in Amboy. (Region 2)
  • Amy Kincaid is a fourth grade science teacher at Shiloh Elementary School in Hume. (Region 4)
  • Charles Simer is a 6th grade science teacher at Woodlawn Grade School in Woodlawn. (Region 6)

2008-2009 ISTA ExxonMobil Outstanding Teacher of Science Awardees

ISTA New Teacher of the Year Awardees 2008-2009

The Illinois Science Teachers Association (ISTA) with the generous support of ExxonMobil announced the five up-and-coming science stars for the 2008-2009 ISTA New Teacher of the Year Award in July. These teachers were nominated by colleagues or administrators and received $400. Many thanks to ExxonMobil for funding these awards and for their commitment to ISTA’s mission to promote science teaching and learning throughout Illinois.

The winners will also be recognized at the Annual ISTA Conference to be held in November, 2009.

  • Loriann M. Gulik-Hoyle will begin her second year as a high school biology teacher in the Fall of 2009. Loriann taught at J. Sterling Morton East in Cicero last year and she will be teaching at J. Sterling Morton West in Berwyn this year. (Region 1)
  • Sarah O’Leary is in her third year as an educator and currently teaches at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) in Aurora. (Region 1)
  • Michael Fredericks will begin his second year as a science teacher in the Fall of 2009. He is a high school biology teacher at Princeton High School in Princeton. (Region 2)
  • Julie Fane is entering her third year as a science educator. She is a fifth grade teacher at Muffley Elementary in Decatur. (Region 4)
  • Ashley Henrichs is entering her third year as a science educator. Currently, she is a sixth grade science teacher at Glenn Raymond School in Watseka. (Region 4)
