At the June 20-22 ISTA Board of Directors meeting, Mr. Ken Rosenbaum (volunteer to the National Science Teachers Association)
provided leadership and facilitated discussions and consensus building activities which led to goals and objectives for ISTA for the next several years.
ISTA Secretary Kendra Carroll and President Elect Gwen Pollock work on recording action elements of the strategic plans. Following approximately 11 hours of facilitated discussion and creative thinking, the board developed a strategic plan, subject to review, comment, and adoption.

ISTA President Jill Carter presented Ken Rosenbaum with a certificate of appreciation for his leadership. Highlights of the Strategic Plan will be discussed at the Annual ISTA meeting and posted when finalized.

Following the very productive board meeting, President Jill Carter and President Elect Gwen Pollock delegated Executive Director Harry Hendrickson to get the wheels turning.
The ISTA Strategic Plan provides guidance and direction for the work of the Standing Committees and any Ad Hoc Committees that may be established. The following committee work descriptions connect the responsibilities of the committee to the various Action Plans of the ISTA Strategic Plan.
The Archives Committee shall be responsible for the collection and preservation of the records of the Association and other items of historical interest.
The Awards Committee shall be responsible for the selection and nomination of individuals to honored and recognized by the Association. The work of this committee includes the implementation of Action Plan—2A.
The Convention Committee shall develop a conference theme, plan and secure speakers, presentations, and workshops. The convention chair's duties shall include, but not be limited to, confirmation of site, registration, exhibits, pre-convention mailings, and oversite of the whole program. The work of this committee includes the implementation of Action Plan—1A.
The Finance Committee shall propose a budget to the Board of Directors for adoption each fiscal year.
The Membership Committee shall promote membership in the Association and analyze membership trends annually. The work of this committee will include implementation of Action Plan—6A.
The Nominations and Elections Committee shall secure candidates and prepare a suggested slate for evaluation by the Board of Directors and conduct the elections.
The Public Relations Committee shall promote the goals and image of the Association. This work includes the implementation of Action Plan—6B.
The Publications Committee will work to implement Action Plan—1B, Action Plan—2B, Action Plan—4A, Action Plan—4B, Action Plan—5A, Action Plan—5B, and Strategies 1, 2, and 3, under Action Plan—6B.
This committee will collect and disseminate information on professional improvement opportunities via the Building a Presence Network, addressing Action Plan 1C, 3 A & B, 7A
This committee will develop internal ISTA policies regarding non-commercial and commercial information dissemination, consistent with NSTA policies but geared for ISTA communications.
This committee will investigate and pursue on-line voting and member surveys aimed at improving communication, ISTA responsiveness to members, and cutting mailing costs.
This committee will develop and market professional clothing and other items for ISTA member sales.
