This is a great opportunity for your students!
Teachers in Illinois should have received a mailing in mid-September from the Illinois Junior Science & Humanities Symposium at SIUC. Our desire is to reach not only teachers who will establish an ongoing participation with our program, but also students who are looking for an opportunity to present their original scientific research.

The Illinois Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (IJSHS) is conducted under the auspices of the National Junior Science & Humanities Symposia Program <http://www.jshs.org>. The Junior Science and Humanities Symposia (JSHS) Program has been an annual event since 1958.
JSHS annually reaches about 10,000 high school students and teachers at regional and national symposia. Forty-eight regional symposia are held throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and in cooperation with the Department of Defense Schools of Europe and the Pacific.
The primary aims of IJSHS are to promote research and experimentation in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics at the high school level, and to publicly recognize students for outstanding achievement and effort.
The major activities of the ILLINOIS JSHS include:
* presentations of original research papers by high school students
* a student poster session
* 2 laboratory visits to faculty research labs to participate in hands-on activities
* opportunities to meet others interested in the sciences
* presentations by guest speakers, including Dr. Richard E. Smalley, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and Tom Ulrich, internationally-acclaimed wildlife photographer.
All housing and planned meal functions during the Symposium are covered by the program. Travel to and from the Symposium is not covered. Registration fee: $10 per student. Registration fee is waived for teachers.
