Positions Announcement: #1546, #1556, #1626, #2010.

Illinois State University announces 4 tenure track assistant professorships in Elementary Education
beginning August 15, 2005. The positions are in
social studies education (#1546); literacy education (#1556); child development (#1626); teacher education (#2010). The primary teaching assignment is in the Elementary Education program at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate will also participate in the Department?s growing professional development school initiative and off-campus teaching.

Qualifications

        Along with quality instruction, the faculty is seeking a colleague who values collaboration and takes an active role in research, program development, and providing professional service. Minimum requirements for the position include: earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Teacher Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or other education-related doctoral degree awarded by August 15, 2005; demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and potential for/evidence of scholarly and creative activities in named field. Three years K-9 teaching experience and previous college experience strongly preferred.

The Department

Curriculum and Instruction consists of approximately 70 full-time equivalent faculty offering teacher education programs at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. Of its three undergraduate majors, the elementary education is the largest with about 1300 majors. The department has masters and doctoral programs serving educators throughout central and northern Illinois. The faculty is active in several Professional Development Schools. All of the Department?s teacher education programs are fully accredited by NCATE and the Illinois State Board of Education. The College of Education is a member of the Holmes Partnership and the National Network for Educational Renewal.

The University Community

Illinois State University is a doctoral-granting institution with an enrollment of over 20,000 students. Illinois State University is Illinois? first public university, and has been educating teachers since 1857. The University is located in Normal/Bloomington, Illinois, a community of over 100,000, which is at the crossroads of the Midwest. Illinois State University is conveniently connected to several major cities: Chicago (2 hours), St. Louis (2.5 hours), Indianapolis (2.5 hours), and Peoria (30 minutes).
