Teacher Opportunity
ÿ Become part of a dynamic program, "Fish School:
Taking Stock of Risks and Benefits."
ÿ Teachers in grades 7-12 will receive a $200
stipend.
ÿ Obtain CPDU's or CEU's as part of this
professional development.
ÿ Update your scientific knowledge and teaching
techniques on an important environmental health issue.
ÿ Meet state education standards by incorporating
this subject matter into your classroom curriculum.
ÿ Encourage student stewardship through
school/community-based awareness projects.
ÿ Apply for travel reimbursement to attend
professional conferences.
ÿ Be recognized for your accomplishments at an
awards ceremony.
Through this
project you will learn about the benefits of eating fish, as well as
the risks due to harmful contaminants present in Lake Michigan fish.
Through an improved understanding about benefits of fish consumption,
as well as the social and biological threats, your students and their
families will be able to make wise choices about the fish they prepare
and eat.
Based on information you learn at the workshop, you will be
prepared to help your students develop materials for presentations at
your school and at a community-based event of your choosing. The
workshop will be held from 9:00-4:30 on May 21, 2005 at Purdue

NSTA's Building a Presence for Science Program; Robin Goettel,
Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant College Program at the University of
Illinois; and Leslie Dorworth, Purdue University are leading this U.S.
