[ISTATALK-L] Informal survey--collecting work, grading
Hello everyone.
I'm trying to reassess my methods of collecting work, grading, etc. I
was wondering if you can please comment on the following questions so I
can get an idea of how others handle these tasks. I'm concerned not
only because I would like to decrease my paperwork but most importantly
I'd like to help my students have more success with in class work as
well as homework.
1) What percentage of in class work do you collect and give points for?
2) Of the work mentioned in #1, how frequently do you grade for
correctness vs. completion?
3) What systems do you have in place for helping students keep track of
their work? Are they successful?
4) How often do you give quizzes? Exams?
5) Do you check or collect notebooks, binders, or portfolios? Please
explain your method, frequency and what you assess students on.
6) What percentage of homework do you collect and give points for?
7) What is your late work policy?
8) What is your makeup work policy for absences?
Finally, a little bit about you:
1) How long have you been teaching?
2) Do you find that the teachers at your school have similar grading
policies? If so, is that good or bad? Why?
3) What grade and subject do you teach?
4) Would you describe your school as urban, rural, or suburban?
5) How would you describe your parental contact?
Thanks!!
