Dear Ms. Gwen Pollock:

The Minority Affairs Committee of the Illinois Section of the American
Society of Civil Engineers (IL - ASCE) is sponsoring a scholarship for
Chicago area minority high school students wishing to attend the
University of Notre Dame's "Introduction to Engineering" summer program,
and we would like to know if the Illinois Science Teachers Association
would be interested in helping us distribute the attached scholarship
notice and application to Science teachers so that they can notify
qualified students who may be interested in the program.

The award is limited to minority students completing their Junior year
of high school who will have completed three years of math and one year
of either physics or chemistry by the end of their Junior year.
Interested students should complete the application and prepare a letter
to the IL - ASCE expressing the applicant's desire to attend the
program. A letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor or a
teacher is also required. Please note that the applications must be
received in full at the address on the application by March 4, 2005. No
submittals by the student to the University of Notre Dame are required
at this point.  The IL - ASCE will cover the admission fees,
transportation, and a meal plan for each student award.
