[ISTATALK-L] OutdoorIllinois Contest
Which bird will fly?
It's time for Illinois school children and others to vote for the
native Illinois bird they'd like to see featured in an upcoming issue of
OutdoorIllinois magazine and on DNR's Kids & Education website.
Previously, readers picked the red fox as the Illinois mammal they'd
like to see described in detail. Now the birds get their due.
Feathered candidates for the next creature feature include the
eastern wild turkey, the bluebird, sandhill crane and mallard duck.
Which one has the longest life span? How far can a turkey fly? Are there
any mallards in South America?
Such questions will be answered---depending on your vote. And here's
how: Votes may be submitted through DNR's website
(www.dnr.state.il.us/OI). For students and educators, be sure to include
the name and location of your school when voting to be eligible for a
drawing for a package of educational materials, including a year's
subscription to OutdoorIllinois magazine, valued at more than $2,200.
