[ISTATALK-L] Quantitative Literacy in Introductory Geoscience
Infusing Quantitative Literacy into Introductory Geoscience Courses
June 26-28, 2006

Application deadline: May 10, 2006
Goal: Develop strategies for increasing the quantitative learning in
introductory geoscience courses.
Overview: Participants will consider ways to increase the quantitative
component of their introductory courses and will create activities and
syllabi that support this goal. Workshop activities will include
participation in discussions, creation of introductory exercises and
model syllabi, poster and plenary sessions, panels of expert faculty and
presentations by participants about effective strategies. Participants
will be asked to bring an activity or an idea for an activity idea that
they would like to use in a specific introductory course and to identify
a specific course to work on.

This opportunity is made possible by grant number NSF-03-04762 from the
Geoscience Directorate of the National Science Foundation. Participants
will be reimbursed for travel costs and will receive housing and board
during the workshop.
