[ISTATALK-L] Possible grant opportunity to consider

So many times, teachers contact me about any opportunities for grants to help pursue a great idea they have for their classrooms. I haven’t publicized enough about the Toyota Tapestry grant program---this could be a great chance for Illinois teachers to submit their ideas for national selection for their classroom ideas. Here are a few of the details, but you can find out more at www.nsta.org/programs/tapestry

Teacher eligibility:

Must have 3 years science teaching experience in US/territory/possession K-12 school, prior to this year
Must teach at least 2 science classes per day, if middle or high school
If elementary teachers—must teach some science in classroom or as teaching specialists
Project may include multiple teachers

Applications are now available and due January 18, 2007---submitted online by 11:59 pm (faxed or mailed copies not accepted)

Criteria: demonstrate creativity, involve risk-taking, possess a visionary quality and model a novel way of presenting science---must promote exciting and innovative activities to motivate students in science.

Prize: 50 large grants of $10,000 each and minimum of 20 mini-grants of up to $2500 each---in Environmental Science, Physical Science or Literacy and Science Education.

Notification by early March

Recognition at NSTA conference in St. Louis in March/April
