[ISTATALK-L] GIS and GPS classes for educators!



Have you heard the term ?Geospatial Technologies? surfacing across Illinois yet? If you haven?t, you will be hearing about it soon across the educational technology pipelines of Illinois. As educators and consultants in these areas, we are actively involved with this plan for Illinois? educational future.  Here are some opportunities to learn these technologies, please share this with those who are interested.

Have GPS Will Travel Class,
Dickson Mounds Museum,
June 12-14, 2007
Experience the ultimate introductory level GPS hands-on workshop for educators. This class is for all grade 3 - 12 educators who wish to learn what GPS is and how to use it as a tool with their students in the classroom. Teachers will learn what GPS is, how to work with a GPS unit, initialize it, program it, collect data, enter data, clear data and how it is used in the real world and why it is important in education. Topics include Geocaching, Confluence and Scavenger Hunts will be covered and experienced in the class. Also what is possible with GPS data will be explored and demonstrated in terms of mapping.

GPS2GIS Adventure
July 16 - 19, 2007
This class is a fast approach to both GIS and GPS for 3 - 12 educators who want a direct approach to using GIS, GPS and its related resources with their students in the classroom. Teachers will learn what GIS and GPS are about, why it is important in education, and ways of implementing this technology into their school curriculum.
