ISTA Year of Science (2009)
Cool Projects
We’re planning several really cool projects for Illinois science teachers and their students:
- Intriguing Science with Intriguing Photography—ISTA plans to promote local photography exhibits by your students to intrigue themselves in science with intriguing close-up or distant photographic displays.
- Science Book Clubs—ISTA is organizing a system which will allow you to inspire your students, colleagues, and community to read together. We’re also working with ideas for an on-line book study for our members using the new National Research Council book, Ready, Set, Science! (ISTA has copies available.)
- Year of Science—2009 Events—we’re working to develop a 2009 calendar of events throughout the
state for you to attend, learn and enjoy science and science teaching even more. Many of these local or
regional events will be in collaboration with scientific, professional, and trade organizations or agencies.
Event worksheets now available! If you have an event you would like publicized, please complete and submit: - Letters to Your Local News media: To help commemorate, celebrate, and promote the Illinois Year of Science, ISTA asks science teachers to write a letter to their local news media, seek an interview, or showcase a science project. We know the letter below may be too long, it will identify issues and provide ideas for this promotion of IMPROVED SCIENCE EDUCATION.
